RICHARD R. HATTENHAUER

Richard Hattenhauer is a native Oregonian, born in The Dalles and raised in Pendleton. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1968 and from the University of Oregon in 1972. Mr. Hattenhauer attended the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College, graduating in 1975. He was admitted to the Iowa State Bar in 1975 and served in the JAG Corps of the U.S. Navy from 1975 to 1978 and continued to serve in the Naval Reserve, retiring in 1996. Returning to Oregon in 1979, he became a member of the Oregon State Bar.

Mr. Hattenhauer is authorized to practice law in the States of Oregon and Iowa, and before the Oregon Federal District Court. He is a member of the Oregon and Iowa Bar Associations, Oregon Trial Lawyers, and the Oregon State Bar’s Estate Planning Section and Business Law Section.

The primary focus of Mr. Hattenhauer’s law practice since 1985 has been pretty evenly divided between estate planning and business law. Mr. Hattenhauer has found that they go hand in hand; many of his small business clients also require estate planning for business continuity purposes. His clients are derived from referrals by other attorneys, accountants, financial planners and his clients. Mr. Hattenhauer has prepared and implemented over 500 trusts, many for estates greater than $2M. He has also formed or represented several hundred business entities since 1985.
